Something was going on everyday this past week at New Hope. Ministry is service. Service should not be burdensome however, it should be a joy.
There are two models of service the consumer model or goldilocks model which is I prefer and it is all about pleasing me; and the biblical model which is where can I serve and how can I use my gifts.
God gives the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher for building up of the church Ephesians 4:11-13.
The church is not a building however it is people; the building is where people meet at.
A widow testified after 9 a.m., service five men called to check on her make sure driveway was clear during snow and ice storm, that is ministry.
During snow and ice storm the past two weeks there was men salting and scraping parking lot, that is ministry. During the ice storm an elderly couples heat went out before Pastor could text men to this couple it was already took care of and someone is has HVAC service. That is ministry.
There is a biblical model for effective service in Acts 6:1-5 was the verses pointed out. The widows was being neglected and not on purpose, so the congregation prayed for seven men full of faith, wisdom, and the spirit of God. You only hear about two of the seven. However men was chosen so ministry could continue through prayer and the word.
When everyone uses their gifts the church thrives. However when it is left to few to be heroes the church gets stale.
Everyone has a gift that can be used for effective ministry. When everyone uses their gift for effective service the church will thrive.
